Who are rising social entrepreneurs? What motivates them? What can we learn about them that will inform those who care about positive change? In many ways, Echoing Green sits on a goldmine of interesting data. We have an open application process that results in 1500 applications from 83 countries. After the first phase of our selection process (which includes two evaluation rounds of selection readers), 300 strong semi-finalists remain. This is, perhaps, one of the best groups of emerging social entrepreneurs to illuminate trends in the field. So, we asked them some questions in the form of an anonymous survey – thirty-three data points in all.
And we found gold.
A few things of interest:
1) lnnovative Models: Almost 30 percent of them were proposing hybrid nonprofit/for-profit organizations - echoing a trend of innovative models
2) Serial Entrepreneurs: A full 40 percent have already founded a previous organization
3) Thinking Big: Half of the organizations they proposed to launch will be on a global scale.

The 280 Semi-Finalists (Non Echoing Green Fellows)
Seems like it could be very helpful to the 280 rising social entrepreneurs who did *not* become Echoing Green Fellows to post information about them, their goals, their web sites in a public forum so others interested could offer assistance, guidance and ideas. Beyond finding the gold, that could be sharing the gold and allowing others to help them. Maybe you already do that, if not it sure would be great for them (and others) I suspect.

... and where do they blog?
Maybe you could help me out with this:
Do you know where I can find blogging social entrepreneurs? I would love to get to know some of them.
You can come visit the Rural
You can come visit the Rural China Education Foundation blog too: blog.ruralchina.org
Re: Where do they blog?
Good question Meryn!
We publish the URL's for Echoing Green Fellows in our directory at http://www.echoinggreen.org/fellows/ Several of our recent fellows publish their own regular blogs including: http://www.aidg.org, http://www.buffaloreuse.wnymedia.net, and http://www.genocideintervention.net/blog (and many more).
Another source for social entrepreneurship blogs is at: http://www.socialedge.org/blogs (including a blog from one of this year's finalists).
I'm sure there are some other great suggestions out there.
Youth Climate Entrepreneurs
I was only an Echoing Green Semi-finalist this year, but the youth climate social entrepreneurs blog at www.Itsgettinghotinhere.org - including an Ashoka Fellow, several YouthActionNet fellows, and more.
I help manage It's Getting Hot in Here - dispatches from the Youth Climate Movement and we regularly profile the innovation occurring in the movement.
