Empower children by showing them the pride of individual accomplishment and the joy of the creative spirit.

MELODY (no longer operational) brings the joy of music to children (age 7-13) in group homes throughout Washington, D.C. After an opening concert by MELODY teachers, children choose their instrument, learn to play over months and years, and then perform in concerts themselves. Through MELODY, children learn the pride of individual accomplishment and the joy of the creative spirit.

Personal Bio

Ilann Margalit Maazel has a diverse trial and appellate practice specializing in high-profile civil rights and class action litigation, including police misconduct, free speech, education, discrimination, whistleblower, election, and wrongful death cases. He joined his current firm after clerking for the Hon. John M. Walker on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Ilann’s clients have included Martha Stewart, Friends of the High Line, the NAACP, the Children’s Aid Society, and a diverse array of commercial and civil rights clients. He is a recipient of the Legal Services Pro Bono Leader Award in 2009 and the Legal Aid Society’s 2004 and 2005 Pro Bono Publico Awards, and is a 2001-02 recipient of a Coro Fellowship.
Ilann regularly writes and lectures on civil rights, First Amendment, education, and election law issues, and is a frequent commentator on civil rights issues in the national media.
