Founder of Qorax Energy

2014 Climate Fellow

Qorax Energy creates a vehicle for entrepreneurs in low-income, hard-to-reach areas like Somalia to solve energy access issues in their communities with renewable solutions. Qorax partners with local educational institutions to create renewable energy business incubators. The incubators use a collaborative process to define the most critical local energy issues and train entrepreneurs to create businesses that scale the adoption of high-impact, clean domestic energy technologies. Qorax is building a network of renewable energy business incubators in the Global South to rapidly scale renewable technology adoption and facilitate knowledge transfer between communities facing extreme energy infrastructure issues.

Nigel Alexander Carr is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Qorax Energy. Qorax helps entrepreneurs in high-risk, post-conflict states with substandard energy access like Somalia effect change with the most locally appropriate renewable technology solutions. Nigel has focused his career on new businesses that address the powerful long-term secular trends in favor of a more efficient use of resources. He has worked for Brightfields Development, the nation’s preeminent solar developer specializing exclusively in contaminated land with over 140 MW (dc) of projects completed or in development, and previously spent time evaluating waste-to-energy and wind power projects. Nigel is a recipient of the Harold Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Award and received a BA from Amherst College, where he studied the material science and system design of photovoltaics and polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells.
