Echoing Green is pleased to announce Sharyanne McSwain joined the organization as the first-ever chief operating officer. Echoing Green is a nonprofit organization that finds emerging leaders with the best ideas for social innovation as early as possible, and sets them on a path to lifelong impact. Echoing Green’s community of nearly 1,000 social innovators includes past Fellows like First Lady Michelle Obama, the founders of organizations like Teach For America and One Acre Fund, and public figures like Van Jones.
McSwain, who most recently served as the chief financial and administrative officer at StoryCorps, comes to Echoing Green with more than 30 years of financial services and business operations experience, working in nonprofit management, financial engineering, financial services marketing, and municipal finance.
In this new position, McSwain will play an integral role in advancing the organization’s mission, vision and efforts to grow capacity and increase impact. In partnership with President Cheryl L. Dorsey, McSwain will serve as Echoing Green’s internal operations executor, driving the organizational strategy and effectiveness.

McSwain comes to Echoing Green from a 10-year career at StoryCorps. Her love for the stories of everyday people and her desire for mission-driven work inspired her move from Wall Street to the nonprofit sector in 2008. She joins Echoing Green at a pivotal time as the organization embarks on a 5-year strategic plan that aims to increase the organization’s reach and impact.

McSwain received a M.B.A. from INSEAD on the Fontainebleau, France campus and formerly served on the school’s Fundraising Board of Trustees. She also received a B.A. in Urban Studies from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts where she currently serves on the finance committee of the Alumnae Association Board. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, artist Jean-Charles Gobillot.
