From her time cooking in Bay Area restaurants to her many years working as a history teacher in Oakland Public Schools, Catalina has always focused on the essentialness of collaboration. She believes that this power is instrumental to tackling the global problems that plague our world.

Prior to working at Echoing Green, Catalina was a teacher and school leader, working to plan, test, and implement new curricula, and helping to devise school wide initiatives focused on integrating student input to solve school culture shortcomings. In her 6+ years as a teacher Catalina oversaw the adoption of an Ethnic Studies curriculum for Freshman students, and helped to propel an increase in graduation readiness amongst Black and Brown women-identifying students. More than anything, though, Catalina was lucky enough to learn alongside brilliant young people thinking critically about our world, and ourduty to it.

In her first career as a chef, Catalina got to experience the joy of working with her hands, thoughtfully curating gathering spaces punctuated by creative bites and good wine. Cooking continues to be one of her biggest passions, and you will often find her salt-baking a giant ham, making liqueurs with the green walnuts from her backyard, or baking pizzas with housemade sourdough crust.
